A Community of Misfits on a Mission

Blue Christmas Litany

This Sunday, as part of our worship gathering, we will observe a “Blue Christmas Litany.” Blue Christmas is about acknowledging the struggles of those among us for whom the holidays might not be as joyous or celebratory. Some of us have recently experienced the loss of loved ones and are working through grief. Others are far from family and experience loneliness. For a variety of reasons, the holiday season can underscore negative emotions and exacerbate mental health challenges.

Advent is a time for recognizing these struggles, as we resist rushing to the joyous season of Christmastide. In Advent, the days are shorter and the nights longer. Sitting in this darkness reminds us that we still await the Savior to return and make all things new. Therefore, in observance of Advent, we will set aside time this week for prayers, Scripture readings, responsive readings, and lament.
