The season of Lent prepares us for the climax of the Christian Calendar: Holy Week. This week is the center or Jesus-disciples’ year because on this week we commemorate and participate in the climatic week of Jesus’s earthly life and ministry. During Holy Week, we walk in the footsteps of Jesus from the time he entered Jerusalem (Palm Sunday) to the Passover meal he shared with his disciples (Maundy Thursday) to his trial, condemnation, and crucifixion (Good Friday) to his glorious resurrection (Easter Sunday). This week changed the world and it continues to form us even now. Join other misfits as we mark time in a counter-cultural way. For us, Easter isn’t merely about chocolate bunnies and egg hunts—even though those are super fun!—it’s primarily about Jesus and his impact on our world and our lives.
Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday will be a “Roots LIVE”—online, interactive—worship gathering hosted by Pastor T. C. and Pastor Osheta will be delivering a Palm Sunday sermon.
Maundy Thursday
Watch Party – “Backs Against the Wall” The Howard Thurman Story
Join other misfits for a “Watch Party” online to view this important documentary about the life and thought of Dr. Howard Thurman, with whom we’ve been journeying through Lent.
Good Friday
This year we have a very special opportunity to partner with a sibling congregation for a combined worship gathering on Good Friday. On April 15th, the misfits of Roots are invited to join Faith City Church in East St. Paul for an evening of worship and a unique Visio Divina experience. Pastor T. C. will be exhibiting his “Graffiti Stations of the Cross.” The Stations of the Cross refers to a series of images depicting Jesus Christ on the day of his crucifixion and accompanying prayers. The objective of the Stations is to help disciples to make a spiritual pilgrimage through contemplation of the passion of Christ.
Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday will be an in-person worship gathering in which Pastor T. C. will be giving an Easter sermon.
