As an intentionally multiethnic community, Roots Covenant Church seeks to courageously explore subjects in our teaching ministry that equip us to live together toward greater justice and reconciliation. We believe that, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we can now live into God’s dream for the world, that is captured in the vision of John of Patmos in the New Testament book of Revelation:
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice:
“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”— Revelation 7.9-10 NIV
That is why we are going to dive deeply into the subject of culture in our Spring teaching series entitled, “Swimming Lessons.” Culture can be like water to a fish. We can easily go through our lives without realizing how cultural forces influence us. As followers of Jesus, it’s important that we are intentional about how we are being formed by culture. We are called to be formed by the Way of Jesus, and not the ways of the world. And it is our calling to create Kingdom culture!
In this series, we will learn what Jesus and the apostles teach as well as learning from some of the most important and brilliant Christian scholars in the modern, North American church. This series will be informed by material from these scholars.
